Hosted by Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Academy of Gifted Education (HKAGE), the "Hong Kong Youth AI Master Applied Tech Innovation Awards" encourages the use and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our daily lives as AI technologies advance with its growing significance in our surroundings.
The competition, taking place on 17 May 2025, is open to all secondary school students in Hong Kong to raise their awareness and spark their interests in AI, offering them an opportunity to polish their critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills and express their creativity.

Each participating team should be formed by Secondary 1 to 3 and 4 to 6 full-time students in 2024/25 school year in Hong Kong from schools or organisations subvented by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. All members in the same team should be from the same school or organisation.

Each participating team should consist of an instructor, and 2 to 6 students. Mixing teachers and/or students from different schools is not allowed.
Participating teams should register for the Competition through the online registration system on or before the deadline (5:00p.m. on 14 February 2025). Any late registration will not be accepted.
Each team should appoint one representative to complete the online registration on the system. The representative will receive login credentials to access the remaining parts of the application and the submission platform through a confirmation email.
Participating teams will receive a confirmation email once their registration is confirmed.
Please contact us if they do not receive the email by the registration deadline.

First Round
Submit a 3-minute video proposal to present their topic developed based on the competition theme "AI for Better Living" and demonstrate elements of AI.
Final Round (Prototype)

Ten shortlisted teams will create a prototype to be exhibited on the competition day.
Final Round (Presentation)
Five shortlisted teams will present their proposals on stage on the competition day.
Five teams will be selected based on the exhibition performance and present their proposals on stage.
A judging panel will be formed and consist of members of technologists from ASTRI, and/or representatives from the education and/or I&T sector.
The judging panel will evaluate the first round video proposals, the final round prototypes and exhibitions, and the presentation performances based on various judging criteria in the areas of innovation, application, benefits to society, functionality, presentation, etc.

To encourage AI usage in our daily lives, ASTRI will be holding a series of five hybrid AI educational seminars from October 2024 to February 2025, allowing everyone to understand more about the practical applications of AI in various areas in the society. Whether you are students who will be participating in the upcoming Hong Kong Youth AI Master Applied Tech Innovation Awards, or someone who is interested in AI, you are welcome to join the educational seminar series.
All members in the same team should be from the same school or organisation.

For international school students from other educational systems who wish to participate, please contact the Organiser to clarify the corresponding categories.
Instructors can supervise and represent more than one team. Schools can decide the total number of instructors as long as the participating teams has one instructor.
A video not more than 3 minutes in either Chinese or English (compulsory), a 10-page supplementary slides (optional) and the 2-part application.
For junior category, there are two rounds: first and final round. For senior category, there are three rounds: first round and two final rounds. The final round for junior category and the two final rounds for senior category are held on the same competition day.
Yes, each team requires a separate registration to submit their entries. Please fill out the registration form (Part A) as many times as the number of teams you have, to obtain the corresponding number of login names and passwords. Then, you may independently enter the student details and submit the proposal for each team. For example, if you have three participating teams, you will need to fill out Part A of the registration platform three times to obtain three emails containing different login names and passwords. These will be used to enter the details and submit the entries for each team separately.
Before the proposal submission deadline of February 28, 2025, or before the team officially submits their entries, team members can still be changed on the registration platform. After the submission of entries, participating teams are not allowed to change their team compositions. .
It is not necessary, as the submission for the first round is a video proposal of the concept for the prototype.
Shortlisted teams can use existing prototypes from their schools to enter the competition. However, prototypes that have won other competitions are not accepted.
Yes. Failing to do so will render your application invalid.
The competition is free of charge, but the teams are required to prepare their works at their own expense.
Completing the registration and receiving the credentials of the online submission platform does not mean you have successfully joined the competition. You must fill in the second part of the application and submit your proposal to receive the submission confirmation email.
Participating teams are not allowed to make any alterations or substitutions to their proposal and/or supplementary slides after submission.
The prototype is used for exhibition and competition on the competition day (only applicable to the Senior Category), it is suggested to have it ready 2 weeks before the competition for exhibition arrangements. The participating teams are required to set-up the prototype at the venue by themselves before the exhibition. They should also dismantle, handle or take away the prototype.
The seminars are not compulsory, and the attendance is not a part of the judging criteria. However, we suggest that the participating teams attend the seminars to gain more knowledge about AI before creating their work.
The organiser will first disburse the total scholarship amount won by the winning teams to the school. The school will then distribute the scholarship to the winning students. We will contact the schools of the winning teams for further arrangement.
